Weston Ski Track: Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing
Featuring a mostly-flat course that runs 15 kilometers, the Weston Ski Track offers snowshoeing, cross-country (Nordic) skiing, and skate skiing just 30 minutes west of Boston (about 13 miles from downtown). You’ll find everything you need to try a new winter sport or improve your game, with snowy trails, sports equipment rentals, and lessons for all skill levels – plus reasonable rates on everything. Situated at the MDC Leo Martin Golf Course in Weston, the ski track also features night skiing and snowmaking. Beginners are catered to here, so don’t hesitate to try out a new adventure this winter.

 

Wachusett Mountain: Excellent Snowmaking & Train Accessibility
Boasting 25 trails for beginners and intermediate skiers and riders, this lovely ski area overlooks sparkling Wachusett Lake and is surrounded by old-growth forest. Situated about an hour away from Boston between Princeton and Westminster, Wachusett Mountain has recently upgraded its snowmaking capabilities and is served by 8 lifts. With 103 acres, it’s not very wide – but it’s tall! Wachusett Mountain tops out at 2,006 feet and is one of the highest mountains in Massachusetts. The total vertical drop is 1,000 feet. While there are a few runs for experts, Wachusett Mountain is best for beginners and intermediates. Families love the kid-friendly magic carpet lifts and the full-service ski and snowboard school. Don’t feel like driving? Hop on the Ski Train from Boston’s North Station to Fitchburg and ride the weekend shuttle to the resort.

 

Nashoba Valley Ski Area: Short Lines & Giant Snow Tubing Park
Nashoba Valley Ski Area is a favorite destination for Boston skiers after a day of work – its location 45 minutes from the city makes it a tempting option for a night on the mountain. Ski lift lines are usually short, and there are 17 trails that range from beginner to expert. Find lessons for beginners to improve your game or to get on your feet snowboarding – with two terrain parks, you may want to try something new! Nashoba Valley Ski Area is also known for its massive snow tubing park and snow tube races, along with an easygoing atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.

 

Blue Hills Ski Area: Supreme Convenience & Perfect for Beginners
Just a 40-minute drive south of Boston, this small ski area in Canton, Massachusetts is perfect for an afternoon of skiing or a day trip to the mountains. Its compact size makes the ski area ideal for beginners and learners, with 60 acres of skiable snow, nine trails, and four ski lifts (total vertical drop is 309 feet). There is snowmaking and night skiing on the majority of the ski area, along with a relaxed atmosphere and family-friendly vibe. Pats Peak: High-Speed Trails & Three Terrain Parks
With 30% of its trails set aside for advanced and expert skiers, Pats Peak is home to some of the steepest and longest runs around. But beginners will find plenty of space to play and learn too at this ski area, which is situated near Henniker, New Hampshire (about 90 minutes north of Boston). Ski and ride on 28 trails and slopes along with nine gladed areas of ungroomed powder and pristine beauty. The summit rises to 1,460 feet and the vertical drop is 770 feet. All of the ski areas are open day and night thanks to 100% snowmaking and great coverage all season long. Pats Peak is also a good option if you’re traveling with non-skiers thanks to the charming town of Henniker. It’s a picture-perfect postcard of a rural New Hampshire village with cute shops and friendly locals – a great place to spend an afternoon snapping photos, sipping wine, and exploring.
