The Esplanade
Located along the Charles River, the Esplanade is a beautiful waterfront park with tennis courts, ball fields, boat docks and rentals, and recreation areas. The park is a great place for runners with scenic views of the river and Cambridge. The Exercise Course at the Esplanade has outdoor gym equipment for body weight exercises, such as pull ups and stretching.
Rose Kennedy Greenway
This string of urban parks stretches across Boston with beautiful gardens, green spaces, plazas, promenades and public art through Chinatown, the Financial District, the Waterfront, and North End neighborhoods. In the spring, the greenway is the perfect place for running, walking, or outdoor meditation. This summer, the Greenway Fitness Program offers outdoor fitness, yoga, and cardio dance classes and strength and conditioning workouts in the parks Monday through Thursday and Saturday.
Surrounded by Boston’s best cultural attractions, the Back Bay Fens is an eclectic mix of formal and community gardens, ball fields, memorials and paths. This beautiful park, part of the Emerald Necklace, offers scenic areas and trails for outdoor activities. The perimeter of the Fens offers an easy 1.5 mile loop for runners.
Boston Common and Boston Public Garden
Located at the south end of Freedom Trail, Historic Boston Common and the Public Garden are downtown Boston’s playgrounds. These parks offer grassy fields for workouts and yoga and paved paths for running, walking and biking. The streets outlining the Common and the Public Garden form a 2-mile running track. Boston Common also offers softball fields for pick-up games in the spring and summer.
Commonwealth Avenue Mall – A Perfect Run
