Boston’s Best Breweries & Taprooms

Samuel Adams Boston Brewery (60 State St., Boston, 617-466-6418)
The second-largest craft brewery in the country, Samuel Adams Boston Brewery features the Boston Taproom in downtown on State Street with a rooftop deck and the Brewery Taproom with a beer garden in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood. Sample beers on tap like the Boston Lager and Wicked Hazy IPA and taproom exclusive brews. The brewery also offers tours, a shot, and beer to take home.

Harpoon Brewery and Beer Hall (306 Northern Ave., Seaport, Boston: 617-456-232) One of New England’s original craft breweries, Harpoon offers a traditional beer hall in the Seaport District. Beer lovers can sip Harpoon IPA and UFO brews straight from the tap, as well as limited-release pilot brews. Pair with a signature pretzel served with IPA cheese or ale mustard. Harpoon Brewery and Beer Hall is open Tuesday through Sunday.

Trillium Brewing Company – Fenway (401 Park Dr., the Fenway/Kenmore, Boston; 857-449-0778 Shifting Boston’s beer scene into high gear, Trillium is the place for New England IPAs, sweet stouts, and European-style lagers and wild ales. Try the goodness of these local haze-makers at the Fort Point brewpub and the Trillium Fenway taproom, which is open Wednesday through Sunday for draft and food service, as well as pick up and beer to go. Whether you like hoppy, sour, roasty, or wild, Trillium has amazing beers on tap and by the bottle. If you’re hungry, you can enjoy tacos, bowls, and nachos from their neighbor, Taqueria El Barrio.

67 Degrees Brewing (158 Grove St., Franklin, Boston; 508-507-7376) One of only a half dozen Black-owned breweries in Massachusetts, 67 Degrees is a short drive from downtown Boston in the town of Franklin. This brewery serves rotating brews, like the Route 140, a New England-style sipper hopped with citrus buds, and the brown ale made with raw local honey. Open Wednesday through Sunday, the taproom also offers food pop-ups and acoustic live music.

Turtle Swamp Brewing (3377 Washington St, Boston, MA 02130) This Boston brewery in Jamaica Plain serves chocolaty porters, crisp golden ales, and citrusy IPAs. Grab a fresh pour or can in the taproom or on the sunny patio near the Franklin Park Zoo. Try the Orange Line IPA, a citrus-forward brew that celebrates the nearby subway line.

Democracy Brewing Company (35 Temple Place, Downtown Crossing, Boston, 857-263-8604) Located in downtown Boston, this brewpub serves fresh beer on tap and locally sourced pub fare in Boston’s Downtown Crossing area. Sip pints of classic beer styles, like Worker’s Pint American blonde ale, Fighting 54th saison, and the 1919 Strike stout. The traditional public house features a tasting room and a kitchen with scratch-made food, live music, and crowlers to go.

Dorchester Brewing Company (1250 Massachusetts Ave., Dorchester, Boston, 617-514-0900) Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood has its own craft brewery. The Dorchester Brewing Co. offers a taproom that serves house brews, including Embarrassment of Riches IPA, Clapp’s Cream Ale, and sour called Stone Fruit Steve Austin. This Boston brewery has a rooftop beer garden and longtime pop-up M&M BBQ.
 

Best Beer Bars in Boston

Rebel’s Guild – Back Bay Sip Boston craft brews at Rebel’s Guild at the Revere Hotel Boston Common. Row 34 – Seaport District Row 34 serves a rotating collection of unique, fresh craft beer on tap, including exclusive drafts from regional breweries such as Bissell Brothers and Upland Brewing, paired with local seafood.

Lord Hobo Brewing’s Bar – Inman Square Stop by Lord Hobo’s bar in Inman Square serving hoppy ales and IPAs like the Boom Sauce. The bar features Lord Hobo brews and a curated beer list with 40 on tap and 30 by the bottle, The taps rotate frequently and feature craft brews from around the country and some obscure beers.
